The Fate of the Furious

Every now and then, you just wanna watch movies for the fun of them, and I largely consider the 'Fast & Furious' series to be that sort of over-criticized series in which they're always at least trying new stuff, and it's a new fun time every time you go. Granted, some of the titles are better than others, but I still have a fun time with the bad ones just as well.

This time around, Dom Torretto (Vin Diesel) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) are on their honeymoon in Havana, when Dom is eventually found by Cipher (Charlize Theron) who blackmails Dom into helping her get what she wants. This will require Dom to actually turn against his team in order to do it. While the team seems convinced that Dom has flat out gone rogue, Letty strongly holds onto the belief that Dom is doing it all for a good reason, 'cause he'd never turn his back on her.

Well, what can I say? It's a 'Fast & Furious' movie, and it contains everything we'd wanna see from one of those titles; fast cars, explosions, action, and a whole lot of moments where the very laws of physics are broken into little tiny pieces. At this point there are 8 movies, so if you're still out there complaining about their logic, you need to find something new to watch.

This one wasn't without a couple of rather gaping problems though, and if I said them here, it'd just spoil the movie. But let's just say there's one character who is gonna do something a "Fast Fan" probably isn't gonna like, and there's another item that's painfully predictable, but it doesn't RUIN the story in the end either.

However, I have to say that out of all of these movies, I was impressed as hell with the villain! Cipher is intimidating, ruthless, and will seem to do anything and everything to get her way. I feel like I'm gonna remember her more than any real Fast villian 'cause she just had this scary psychotic way about her. SO far, she may be the best villain I've seen this year.

It may not be the best of the bunch overall, but I'd put it somewhere in the middle. What it lacks with such a basic story, it makes up for in the stunts and action pretty damn well. I like these movies, if nothing else for sort of a guilty pleasure, and this one was definitely no exception.
